Kinloch Community Plan
Taupō District Council is facilitating the development of an updated Community Plan for Kinloch shaped by our community. The current plan was developed in 2017(see below), so this is an important opportunity to consider what matters to our community now in 2026 and what should be prioritised for the future.
In September 2026, the Kinloch Community Association (KCA) gathered feedback to better understand what our community values. This will help us represent the views of the wider Kinloch community and contribute constructively to the planning process.
We invited everyone with a connection to Kinloch to complete our short community survey. This included permanent and part-time residents, property owners, business owners, community groups and regular visitors. You did not need to be a KCA member to participate.
The survey launched on Saturday 5 September 2026, with an advertised closing time of 5 pm on Friday 18 September. However, the results include responses up to 23 September.
Survey Results
We received 257 responses to the survey.
Respondents show a strong attachment to Kinloch’s village character, peace, natural surroundings, lake access and community spirit. The leading listed priorities were reserves, the Community Structure Plan, the Volunteer Fire Brigade, streamside trails and pest control. Written feedback adds practical demands for better roads, toilets, upkeep and waterfront safety, often expressed with considerable frustration.
There is no single view on growth. Some want further development stopped; others support carefully managed growth, new services and a stronger visitor economy. Similar differences arise over boat ramps, parking, tree management, community facilities and spending.
The detailed survey results and responses are below, along with an analysis report, which summarises all the feedback and comments.
What happens next?
The KCA has reviewed the responses and provided a copy of the detailed responses and analysis report to Taupō District Council to help inform the development of the updated Community Plan.
We anticipate some further workshops with the community before the draft is finalised. We do not yet have confirmation of the timeline.
