Kinloch Stream Reserves
The Kinloch Streams reserves include the Whangamata, Okaia and Otaketake Stream Reserves within the Kinloch area. The aim of the volunteer work on these reserves is to restore the native flora and fauna that used to flourish next to our trout nursery streams. This restoration of our flora benefits our waterways by ensuring our streams stay clean and provides protection for spawning trout and their fingerlings (baby trout). It also benefits our community and visitors by providing beautiful trails and walkways for all of us to enjoy.
Regular working bees are held to help with the planting of natives, the removal of exotic species and pest plants, and maintaining the reserves so they enhance Kinloch. Working beside them in the background, the Kinloch Community Bring Back the Native Birds Group coordinates traplines and trapping on the reserves to remove imported pests, ensuring our flora and fauna are protected.
We need a lot of volunteers of all ages and abilities to successfully return these reserves to their former glory. If you can help, please fill out the form below.
