MY Connection to Kinloch
Our family have been ratepayers in Kinloch since 1972. After a period of caravan/tenting vacations, the family holiday cottage in Gibbs Place was completed in 1985 and became the centre of our extended families’ vacations, especially during the summer holidays. Chris and I purchased the cottage in 2002 and, having later decided to semi-retire in Kinloch, sold the cottage in 2017 and purchased our current residence in Bodes Lane. We moved permanently from Auckland in August 2019.
Background
My background is in marketing and strategic planning and includes senior management roles in the plastics, meat and electricity industries. I have a lifelong passion for motorsport and was fortunate to be able to spend the 17 years prior to semi-retirement managing a national sporting organisation, KartSport New Zealand. Great experience in managing a not for profit organisation and a sport largely run by club volunteers. I am a life member of KartSport New Zealand and patron and life member of KartSport Wellington. I am a member of the Kinloch Village Golf Club.
I am proud to be a member of the KCA Executive, a team of passionate people who only want the best for Kinloch. I chair the Communications Sub-Committee where I am expertly supported by Victoria Deaker (social media), and Rachel Stock (website). I am also a member of the Ratepayers Matters Sub-Committee.
Key Issues
My personal areas of focus and attention at Kinloch include:
Trying to bring the factions within the community together in order that we can represent Kinloch, especially to Council, with one voice. Not there yet, but will continue to work towards this.
Adherence to the Kinloch Structure Plan with regard to all future development.
Improving transparency and communication regarding the outstanding work done by the KCA. Examples include the Three Streams and Bring Back Native Birds volunteer teams who work with DoC to enhance our special Kinloch environment and the volunteer teams who make the Christmas Carols, annual Kinloch Plod and Poker Run events happen.

MY Connection to Kinloch
With my wife Monyeen and family, we have been holidaying in Kinloch since 1990. In 2001 we bought our property at 15 Marina Terrace and moved here permanently from Palmerston North in September 2023.
My background/experience
I have an agricultural science degree from Lincoln University, worked on farms in New Zealand and Australia, and managed consultancy practices for the Ministry of Agriculture in Wairoa and Palmerston North. In 1992 I left the Ministry of Agriculture and we set up an agricultural tour business. We handed this business over to staff in 2021.
With this background I have had considerable experience in working with people as a consultant and tour leader both nationally and internationally and in business management.
Key issues for the KCA and the community to address over the next 24 months
Planning for the expected increase in population of both permanent residents and holidaymakers. Reconciling the objectives of different organisations to enhance the Kinloch experience. Liaising with the TDC to ensure the Long Term Plan is aligned with the Kinloch Structure Plan.

MY Connection to Kinloch
My introduction to Kinloch was over 30 years ago, since that time John Kelly & I have spent many holidays boating with family & friends enjoying year-round adventures in the Western Bays. Subsequently, Kinloch became our desired location & we built our home in 2022 moving here permanently early last year. In our first year we have been welcomed by so many, we have established friendships, taken on roles within the community & feel very much at home.
Background
My background in visual arts, design & photography has led to many career pathways including marketing, fundraising, qualitative research, retail management & community support. Our most recent retail business was with Foodstuffs NI where my leadership roles included compliance, health & safety, staff management & community support throughout the Greater Wellington Region. I also managed social media platforms & worked in governance. Initially, I volunteered to assist KCA with their social media & communication & recently joined the Executive. I look forward to supporting the work done within our community across all facets of Kinloch’s growth & management needs.
Key Issues
Kinloch is a desirable location with impressive natural assets, the ongoing care of waterways, native bird life & lake species are paramount to the work done by KCA & to support these issues we need skilled specialists & volunteers. With open communication across all interested parties residents & visitors will benefit as the village continues to develop. The range of households will evolve & the opportunity for involvement will increase. I believe I can contribute to these issues with open communication channels which are easily accessed & by encouraging positive engagement that celebrates our local environment.

Vicki’s connection to Kinloch
In 1960, my grandparents, Bob & Molly Stevenson, bought two of the first sections available in Kinloch, choosing by walking west along the reserve on Nisbet Terrace until the mountains were visible. They built a simple but large house to accommodate all the extended family over holidays. The village then was paddocks, & the road in was just a dirt track. I have grown up at Kinloch with my parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles & cousins, spending every school holiday here from Auckland.
During that time we knew nearly everyone. My father was a founding member & director of the Kinloch Marina Company. We kept our horses in the ‘first stream paddock’, courtesy of Roger Holyoake (for a bottle of whisky).
My parents, John & Jenny Henry retained one of the sections in 1980 when the old house was moved away, & they put up our family cottage. Subsequently, the next generation followed in our footsteps, our boys & their cousins growing up with the same precious memories. Mum & Dad are now touching 90, but they still love to come down from Auckland & stay here in their cottage with family. Doug & I have a lifestyle block a few minutes away, my sister, Sue Henry, is building her new house in Kinloch, having lived in the village & taught at Taupo-Nui-A-Tia. Interestingly, nearly all the families/friends we grew up with along Nisbet Terrace still have a presence in Kinloch. There are many stories to tell!
Background & Experience
I am a retired physiotherapist, having worked predominantly in paediatrics both in Canada & New Zealand. I have some experience with company matters, having set up & administered a company for my husbands’ consulting business at the time. I am currently a director of Whangamata Water Limited. Our best times are out on the lake & out in the paddocks & garden. Plus of course, having our family visit.
Key Issues for KCA & the community to address
The feel & sense of belonging to Kinloch Village is something to be treasured. The way of life, the opportunities to grow & develop, the good old-fashioned values of care, respect & community connectedness I see as important. The ability to work with others & understand how we can keep these values, & the core heart of village life, is a challenge we all face in the midst of demands for ever increasing development.
If I am able to give any future grandchildren something of what I experienced growing up here I will be happy.
